Vesynia is a main sequence G2V yellow dwarf, slightly larger and brighter than Sol. The system’s economy is based on mining of its five gas giants and their various satellites. The fourth planet, York’s Landing, is home to the vast majority of the system’s population and is also the Lightbringers Space Marines’ Chapter World. The only other habitable planet in the system is the Death World of York’s Folly, whose scattered barbaric tribes provide the vast majority of the Chapter’s recruits.

III: Vesynia Tertius

Vesynia Tertius was once home to considerable mineral wealth despite its small size, but this was mined out even before the Age of Strife. Remnants of the ancient mining works are now used by the Lightbringers. Much of the selection process and early training of new recruits takes place in these stifling, lightless tunnels and caverns.

IV: York’s Landing

Chapter World of the Lightbringers Space Marines.

York’s Landing is a Civilized World, home to approximately three billion citizens. A backwater, fragmentary Imperial archives record it was peacefully brought to Compliance during the Great Crusade, but there is no surviving mention of which forces were involved or of any involvement in the Horus Heresy. By M32 the Vesynia system was shrouded by Warp storms and inaccessible to the rest of the Imperium.

V: York’s Folly

It is unknown how a world such as York’s Folly came to be populated by Mankind. By contrast with its neighbour, it is a cold, arid planet; uninviting for colonization. The sparsely populated but dizzying variety of local fauna resemble the arthropods of Terra. Most dwell underground, many species growing to prodigious size in the oxygen-rich atmosphere, while others are venomous.

What is known is that the human population share close genetic ties with those living on York’s Landing, and the world’s name may hint at their common ancestry. Perhaps a colony thrived here for a while before some catastrophic event changed its atmosphere. Or the planet might always have been this way, and the population laid low only by the failure of their technology with the coming of the Age of Strife.

Today, feral tribes eke out a brutal existence on the planet’s plains, hunting and hunted in turn by the native wildlife. From tiny wormlike creatures that paralyse a man with a single bite before burrowing into his ear to lay their eggs, to vast monsters that burst from subterranean lairs to swallow a hunting party whole or spray them with scalding acids, a daily struggle to survive against deadly odds ensures that only the hardiest and most cunning live to procreate. Ritualized duels settle disputes over the land’s meagre resources without risk of crippling the clans in warfare, and serve to hone their warriors’ combat skills from an early age.

This lethal crucible provides the Lightbringers with ideal aspirants to join the Chapter.

VIII.iv: Vesynia Octavus Delta

The undistinguished fourth moon of Vesynia Octavus is the primary archive of the Chapter’s relics, records, armaments and gene-seed banks in the system, secured in gene-locked caches beneath the surface.

The Lightbringers maintain several such archives scattered throughout the Gothic Sector and beyond. Not even the Chapter Master knows every location; each Captain responsible for passing the knowledge to his successor. Thus an assault on York’s Landing, even its fall and the destruction of their great fastness the Morningspire, can do little to impede the Chapter’s ability to wage war. Even the creation of new Space Marines is within their power, should but one of these caches survive.

XIII: Vesynia Tertius Decimus

Otherwise unremarkable, Tertius Decimus is orbited by a Ramilles-class Star-fort and port facilities for the Lightbringers’ fleet and the endless chain of transport ships required to link Vesynia to neighbouring systems. As such, it is very heavily fortified, the planet serving as the foundation for arrays of orbital defence lasers and banks of torpedoes.
